Elaine's Peace for her journey

John 9:1-4
" As He was walking along, He saw a man blind from birth. "Master," His disciples asked Him, "why was this man born blind? Was it a result of his own sins or those of his parents?" "Neither," Jesus answered. "But to demonstrate the power of God. All of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent Me, for there is little time left before the night falls and all work comes to an end."

I have read this passage ALOT over the past 8 years. And I get it. Perhaps more than any one person can imagine. I was told that Ethan's handicap, being deaf, was a direct result of the sin in which he was conceived. I have been told this by many well intended Christians. I did not believe this to be true, and harbor no ill-will for those well-intended and uninformed on matters such as this.

In the time this passage was written, those born with disease or handicaps were to be considered people of sin in the womb, as a baby or even a results of parental sin. But Jesus clearly states that He uses these kinds of things to show Himself and the power of God.

It is very hard to embrace this verse if you have lived with a child who is handicapped. The hard work, the endless hours of hope, praying, and then doing what is best based on a mother's instinct rather than what the "specialist" are telling you. If you have a tumor, a disease of your own. It's a challenge to see God, and His power when any of us are faced with disease.

I have a friend, one whom I have yet to meet, but she is here writing and pouring out that very Power of God as she struggles to overcome cancer. Please go and visit her blog and you will see this passage lived out in modern day. http://peaceforthejourney.com

Her story is still being written as she faces the aftermath of a double mastectomy and now faces the chemo treatments. I read her blog and know that she is showing the Power of God through her disease. Her miracle is coming and I know this to be true.

I have seen many miracles happen around Ethan's life. I have seen God's Power show up for this kid in ways that most would not believe if they were not there because God's Power is so RADICAL. I have told Ethan over and over that God needed a strong person like you to show Himself even more. Ethan knows and believes this to be true because Ethan is in the center of what God is doing through his young life.

We can not be quiet when God's power is shown in the disease of life. That Power that does not make sense but we know it to be true. God's power to show Himself mighty in the smallest of ways. How has He shown His power in your life. Are you telling others about it and giving God glory. You have been hand picked for this season of disease. It's not a disease if God is using YOU and it to show HIMSELF more.

Elaine, this is for you dear sweet friend. You, in your pain, in your physical breakdown, You Elaine continue to give God glory one painful breath at a time and His blessings are there for you. Thanks for reminding those of us who know that God is still in control no matter the circumstance, the disease, the situation. WE just have to acknowledge Him, what He is transforming in our life or body and show HIM to be that powerful God. Blessings to those who read today, and again take a moment to visit this blog: http://peaceforthejourney.com

  1. Precious, sweet Elizabeth...

Where would any of us be without the life-giving pulse of our Jesus via his gift of the Holy Spirit. Honestly, if there is anything good in me, any power any strength, any measure of understanding or mercy left to dispense outwardly at the end of long day, it's Him.

A grace undeserved, yet one I am so thankful to carry as my inheritance. You and I, everyday, carry the kingdom of God IN us. We are the priestly sainthood of believers, and when we humbly bow to our kingdom conferment, God has promised to work mightily through us, most days in spite of us.

I'm living proof; so are you; so is Ethan.

To God be the glory, alone, great things has he done.

What a privilege to share this pilgrimage of peace and grace with you.

    I love you.

  2. Oh, Elizabeth... I so concur. She is living it out right before us. Giving us a glimpse that we would never have permission to see unless we were going through it ourselves.

I am blessed to know you both. You are proof of God's love and kindred spirits.

  3. Thank you so much for posting this today Elizabeth. I went right over and say the newest video and had to truly look at my own heart. I was having a day where the dark wanted to come and now the Lord has blessed me with this. Thank you my friend. Much love to you always.
